The Annual Plant Protection Day for ornamental plant growers in Styria took place on November 21st 2024.
The event was well attended with 70 participants.
Growers themselves and their employees were also sent to refresh their knowledge and to network with colleagues. The main topics included the use of beneficial insects with experience from German partner advisors and plant health promoted by the correct use of trace elements and the use of biostimulants.
- Mary Bay from the Bavarian growers’ ring (Erzeugerring) presented the beneficial insect advice provided by our German colleagues.to ornamental gardeners
- Doris Lengauer from the Wies research station provided information on the current trial to control rice bugs (Nezara viridula) in vegetables using nets or parasitic wasps (Trissolcus)
- Nives Köferle of the Official Plant Protection Service Styria warned of the possible initial invasion by Popilia japonica
- Raimund Popp from the company Jost informed the participants in great detail about the effects of nutrient supply with trace elements and their underestimated effects on plant health
- Maurus Wüllner from Syngenta Germany presented the latest low-risk crop protection products and the range of biostimulants and used test results to explain the reasonable combination of products to avoid the development of resistance to classic chemical fungicides
- Our own team from „Nützlingsberatung Steiermark“ informed the participants about expiring EU approvals of plant protection products and other current news from plant protection for ornamental plant growers and tree nursery.
