The kick-off meeting of the AdvisoryNetPEST project was held in Lisbon from February 27th to 29th, 2024. The event marked the beginning of a significant EU-wide initiative aimed at networking and upgrading advisory services across the EU to increase the sharing of knowledge and the adoption of innovative solutions to reduce the use and risks of pesticides in all EU Member States, in line with the ambitious goals of the EU’s Farm to Fork Strategy.
The AdvisoryNetPEST project brings together 17 EU partners and is a collaborative effort designed to establish a robust network of advisors specialized in pesticide use and risk reduction practices (RURP). Covering all 27 EU Member States and the United Kingdom, this project spans various European pedo-climatic areas and key crop sectors, including arable crops, vineyards, orchards, horticulture, soft fruits, and ornamental plants.
The first day started with a warm welcome to the consortium partners, setting the stage for the work to be developed during the project’s first meeting, which continued with detailed presentations of the project’s working areas. These sessions were complemented by debates and Q&A segments, fostering a collaborative atmosphere where participants could exchange ideas and address potential challenges.
Day two of the meeting featured parallel sessions delving deeper into specific topics such as agricultural practices that contribute to reducing pesticide use and risks, and strategies to expand the EU network of advisors. Participants also explored the novel approach concept and strategies for effective communication and dissemination. The day concluded with a field visit to AGROMAIS, offering attendees a practical glimpse into innovative agricultural practices.
The final day focused on solidifying and discussing the working plan for the first year. The meeting concluded with a comprehensive discussion of the working areas’ interdependencies and feedback sessions, ensuring all participants were aligned on the next steps.
The kick-off meeting, which included 35 consortium members, laid the foundation for the AdvisoryNetPEST project. As the project moves forward, the collaborative efforts of its diverse partners will be crucial in achieving its ambitious goals, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector across Europe.
